Students at Queen’s University Can’t Stop Talking About Steer

Steer’s visit to Queen’s University sparks a wave of interest from students eager for genuine connection.

Steer, the Toronto startup helping people build real professional relationships, had an incredible day at Queen’s University this week. Hundreds of students stopped by to learn how Steer helps them connect more meaningfully, and the response was overwhelming. Many said they loved the concept and were excited to start using it.

Throughout the day, students gathered around the Steer table, asking questions, sharing ideas, and signing up to join the platform. It was clear that students want something real. They are looking for a way to build relationships that actually matter, not just collect names online.

Raif Rizwan Karkal, Head of AI Development at Steer, said, “The energy was amazing. We saw how much people want to build relationships that feel genuine. So many students came up to us saying this is exactly what they have been waiting for.”

The Steer team, including Raif Rizwan Karkal, Moez Akbar, and Shahmeer Raza, spoke with students throughout the event. They showed how Steer helps users find the right people, craft meaningful messages, and remember the details that strengthen relationships over time. Students were curious, engaged, and kept asking when Steer would return to campus.

Moez Akbar, Head of Innovation at Steer, said, “The feedback was incredible. Everyone we spoke to understood what we are building right away. You could tell people are ready for a new way to connect.”

Following the event, Steer has seen strong growth in sign ups and interest from students who want to stay involved. The company plans to keep hosting events like this across universities as part of its mission to help people connect more deeply in a digital age.

Steer will be back at Queen’s University with two more tabling events at the Smith School of Business in Goodes Hall on November 3 and November 10 from 11 AM to 3 PM. Students are encouraged to stop by, meet the team, and see what Steer is building next.

“This is only the beginning,” said Akbar. “We want to help people build relationships that create opportunity and meaning. Every new student who joins reminds us why we started.”

Steer continues to grow as one of Toronto’s most promising startups, bringing people together and showing that real relationships still matter.
